Its mechanical motion, its sounds, and the flow of the threads do not only evoke an industrial past but also a whole set of collective emotions that range from poetic to distressing, depending on the person. I recently came across this arresting image of artist Atsuko Tanaka performing/wearing Electric Dress while compiling materials for courses I will be teaching this winter.

Apparently Electric Dress (a re-construction) was recently featured in Kassel at the Venice Biennale. (via Jen Graves at The Stranger)
