The Weaving Mill run by Geoffrey Tailor -Kiltmaker in Edinburgh Scotland, is a museum/exhibition centre and shop. Ideally situated near Edinburgh Castle, the building used to be the main water reservoir for castle and Royal Mile occupants. The mill is surprisingly large inside with five storeys to explore. Inside one can learn about the entire Tartan production process, from the shearing of sheep, to making a kilt.
There are working looms and the atmosphere is one of a loud and busy factory. The designers of the Weaving Mill have experience in creating new tartan designs, and the equipment and materials to weave these new creations as well as traditional tartan designs. They have been responsible for listing several new Tartans with the Scottish Tartans World Registry. The factory has several old and new models of looms, spindles and other machines used in tartan design and production. It is worth stopping by if you are strolling on the Royal Mile.
